Downing Students March for Breast Cancer Awareness

On Oct. 16, students at Maurice W. Downing Primary School joined together to march in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, expressing their solidarity with survivors and their hope for a cure.
The students proudly wore pink to signify the cause, donning handmade hats and carrying ribbons and signs as they paraded around the school yard. They were joined by teachers and administrators, who walked alongside them to support this important cause and to celebrate the students’ compassion and civic-minded spirit.
Throughout the week, members of the second grade Student Council, who organized the event, collected donations from parents and the school community. In total, the students raised $450, which will be donated to the United Breast Cancer Foundation to help fund ongoing research and support services.
“This event is a wonderful example of how even our youngest students can make a real difference,” said Principal Mr. Walter. “Their enthusiasm, kindness and commitment to helping others reflect the values we strive to nurture every day at Downing.”
This annual initiative reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to fostering empathy, community involvement and social responsibility among its students.
