Dear Maurice W. Downing Primary School Families,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! It is with great excitement, gratitude and enthusiasm that I welcome both our returning families and those joining the Downing community for the very first time. As the new principal of Maurice W. Downing Primary School, I am honored to become part of a school community with such a rich tradition of caring for children during these incredibly important early years.

Our faculty and staff have been working throughout the summer to prepare for an amazing year of learning, growth and fun. Every decision we make is centered on creating a school where every child feels welcomed, supported, challenged and loved. We are committed to building strong relationships with our students and families while fostering a joyful learning environment where every child can thrive.

Whether your child is beginning Kindergarten or returning for First or Second Grade, we cannot wait to welcome them back into our classrooms. The first day of school is always filled with excitement, new friendships and memorable moments, and we are looking forward to sharing those experiences with your family.

• School Doors Open: 8:15 a.m. (Please, no early arrivals.)
• First & Second Grade Supply Drop-Off: Tuesday, August 25
  • First Grade: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
  • Second Grade: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
• Kindergarten Orientation/Supply Drop-Off
  • Thursday, August 27, 10:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m.
